In short – because Grey had one and he never used it. Seriously, I spent so much time getting that nursery ready for him and he hasn’t slept in it once. As most of you know, we became a co sleeping family shortly after Grey was born and have remained that way for the past two years. We are planning on giving him a big boy room in our new house…but baby girl won’t be getting a nursery.
Grey’s nursery that he never used
I would really love to co sleep again this time around because I just feel like life is easier for us that way! However, I am well aware that some babies prefer to sleep on their own and if that’s the case, so be it! I will totally let her sleep in a crib if she wants to…but she’ll still be in our room for at least the first year. I slept so much better with Grey in our room and I’m sure I’ll be the same way this time.
One piece of advice that I would give any new mom is to hold off on the nursery…especially if money is tight. Those items are expensive and you never know if your baby will even use them! I would suggest waiting a few months just to see how things are going and then if you decide you need a crib in a separate room you can always buy one later! It isn’t recommended to have your newborn sleep anywhere but by your side in the beginning anyways. Honestly, all you really need for your new baby is a lot of diapers and wipes, clothes and a way to feed them.
We store all of Grey’s diapers in a hall closet, change his diaper on a pad in whatever room we’re in, his clothes are in our dresser and he sleeps in our bed. No need for an entire room!
What are your thoughts? Do you give your kiddos nurseries from the get go?? Let me know in the comments!!
