A few weeks ago I saw a video going around Facebook about how New Jersey would be the first state to send “baby boxes” home with new Moms. I was instantly intrigued because I had never heard of these boxes before and the video was explaining how they are a safe option for newborns to sleep in.
A couple of days later, I got an email from Pip & Grow asking if I wanted to review their version of the baby box, the Smitten. I found it so ironic that I had just watched that video…so I immediately said, “Yes!” I wanted to see what these boxes were all about. My Smitten arrived and was super easy to assemble, (I was able to do it without my husband’s help!) and it comes with a mattress and a sheet. It’s big enough to use for up to six months…but small enough to transfer from room to room. This is huge when you have a newborn! You can’t transfer a crib from room to room so this is definitely a nice alternative. I also love that it’s gender neutral and super cute! I was worried it might just look like a cardboard box…but it doesn’t. It looks like a bassinet and I think the design on the outside is adorable.
The Smitten provides a safe space for your little one to sleep and allows for you to keep them close! You all know that I am a huge advocate of co sleeping…and this box is perfect if you want to co sleep…just not bed share. In order to reduce the risk of SIDS, it is advised to keep your baby on a firm surface and to not allow anything near them while they are sleeping. (Blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, etc.) The Smitten allows for just that! You can read more about the safety benefits, here.
Of course Grey has to try out all of his baby sister’s stuff! (This is the face he makes when I tell him to smile, ha!)
I’m pretty sold on the idea behind this Smitten! I will update you guys once baby girl is here and let you know how she likes it.
