We have been married for about a year and a half now…
and if I said that every day was perfect, I would be lying.
Of course there are disagreements, frustrations and times when we just get stuck in a rut.
This is when dating your spouse is so important.
And I’m not talking fancy dinners every week. Although that is always nice.
I am talking about doing things out of the ordinary to keep your marriage or relationship exciting!
Here are five ways to “date your spouse”:
1. Go on a coffee date.
We do this at least once a week.
It’s nice because it gets you out of the house and forces you to go somewhere that has little distractions.
Coffee shops have great environments to just sit and talk.
There aren’t any TVs to watch or Xbox games to play.
Joking of course. I am just as guilty at getting distracted.
Try new coffee shops too! They are all different and you never know which one you’ll fall in love with.
2. Recreate one of your very first dates.
What did you do on your first or second date?
Maybe you played mini golf?
Whatever it was…go do that! It’s a fun way to remember where it all started.
3. Get a “Do you know your spouse?” question book.
These are so much fun!
It’s basically a book of questions that you answer about each other and then you see how well you did.
We have done a few of these and it’s always interesting to see what we get right and wrong.
Plus, you can learn something about each other in the process!
I have kept all of the ones we’ve done…and they are so fun to read through.
You can find them here.
4. Cook dinner together.
Kane would probably tell you that this isn’t any fun because I am constantly critiquing his cooking.
Did you wash your hands?
You’re using THAT to season it?
Don’t use that knife to cut that vegetable!
Seriously, I’m terrible.
But…when I can control my kitchen interrogations, we always end up making an incredible meal!
5. Look back and old pictures and videos.
One of the reasons I love having this blog is because I can easily document our lives.
We love looking back at the first pictures we took together…or the first moments we captured on video.
Kane might not always like when I whip out the camera… but I know he will be happy I did when we are 70 years old and we have so many memories to look back on.
So take a night and look at those pictures.
They will spark some good conversations, too.
Oh wow remember that?
That vacation was so much fun!
Look how young we were!
Most importantly…don’t forget why you fell in love in the first place.
And have fun!
