Today, I have a very exciting book review! After waiting for what seemed like forever for the 3rd book to come out…I finally finished the Delirium series! (Actually I finished it quite a while ago but I kept forgetting to post my review!)
Before I get in to the nitty gritty, I just want to say that overall I loved this series! It’s another dystopian world series…similar to the Hunger Games. The thing I love most about books like this is that they make me think. I am not typically one to think “outside of the box”…but whenever I read a series similar to this, I am constantly thinking about everything much differently.
This series is about a young girl, Lena, who is being raised in a world where love is a disease. When you reach a certain age, you have a surgery that basically removes the ability for you to experience or feel love for anyone. You get paired up with a partner based on some different tests and are pretty much supposed to make life work with that person.
The twist is that you can’t get the surgery until a certain age, so during those “uncured” years, you still feel love…even though you’ve been taught that it is wrong and you might be diseased if you start having feelings. Lena of course starts to experience some feelings for an uncured boy and that is where the whole story starts.
Overall this series was written very well. I could not put my books down and as soon as I finished one, I wanted to start the next. I’m actually really sad that there aren’t any more to read. Lauren Oliver has a great way with words and these books are not predictable in the slightest. I was always guessing what would happen next and what happened was always a surprise!
If you enjoyed the Hunger Games series, I highly recommend Delirium, Pandemonium and Requiem. You won’t be let down!!
Have you read this series?
Are there any book series you would recommend for me?
Let me know if you read this one!
