I am really excited about today’s DIY project! After being encouraged by my mom’s good friend Marianne and my sister Betony, I decided to give it a try.
Lately I have been reading a lot about the unnecessary chemicals and toxins that are in a lot of our cleaning products. I am slowly trying to rid our house of these toxins and I started with our laundry detergent. Another bonus about this detergent is that it will actually save you money! It’s better for your skin, better for the environment, AND it saves money!
This soap is super easy to make and only takes 3 ingredients!
– 1 bar of soap
– 1 cup borax
– 1 cup washing soda
*I used Ivory soap this time but I am going to use a more organic brand next time. I just couldn’t find what I was looking for so I went with Ivory. It still works fine…I just personally want a more organic brand! I will update you when I find one.*
You can find all of the ingredients in the detergent aisle of most stores.
Grate the bar of soap with a cheese grater.
To this, add 1 cup of borax and 1 cup of washing soda.
Mix all of the ingredients well.
I added one drop of lavender to mine for added scent!
Store in an air tight container and use 1 tbsp per load.
That’s all there is to it! Super easy and it works great!
I am planning on making more natural cleaners so keep your eyes out for those recipes!
