As I was making these cabbage rolls yesterday, I realized I’ve never cooked with cabbage…in fact, I don’t even think I’ve ever purchased it. However, I saw this recipe on Pinterest and had to try it! The great thing about these rolls is that you can pretty much use whatever you want for the filling; hamburger, turkey burger, chicken, veggies and whatever spices.
With that said, here is how I made my cabbage rolls.
-1 lb. lean ground turkey
-1 head of cabbage
-2 cans tomato sauce
-1/2 cup uncooked wild rice
-whatever spices you want
First, you will want to steam the cabbage for 2 minutes. This will make it easier to roll.
Next, you will need to start preparing the filling. Just mix the meat, rice, egg and seasonings in a bowl until it is sticking together pretty well.
Once that is done, it is time to make the actual roll. Take a piece of cabbage and about 1/4 cup of the filling.
Roll all of it up and there is your cabbage roll!
Place the rolls seam side down in the crock pot and cover with the tomato sauce.
Cook on low for 6-8 hours.
These turned out better than I had expected and I will definitely be making them again!
Let me know if you try them!
