Happy Sunday! I have a recipe to share today. While my parents were here, they made us some Hamburger Soup and as I was eating it, I realized it was actually pretty healthy. This recipe was originally from my Granny but it is easy to adapt.
Granny’s Hamburger Soup
1-1/2 lb. ground beef
3 pints water
1 can tomato sauce or diced tomatoes
1 can of green chilies
Raw carrots and celery
Cubed red potatoes or barley (we used barley)
Any frozen vegetables
Any canned vegetables
1. Brown ground beef with diced onions. (season with salt & pepper as desired)
2. Add water and tomato sauce (or diced tomatoes)
3. Add green chilies
4. Add vegetables in order of cooking time (the veggies listed in ingredients are in order of cooking time)
5. Let simmer until everything is thoroughly heated and cooked
Total cooking time should be about 20-30 minutes
*Note: If using barley, start cooking it an hour ahead according to directions.
This is such an easy recipe and tastes really good!! Plus it makes a lot so you’ll have leftovers 🙂
Thanks Granny for the recipe!!
